Auric’s Guide to Blue Spell Learning (Spells 1-80)

Here is my list of the suggested best ways to learn the 80 spells available to level 60 Blue Mages.  While your Blue Spell Book will tell you one place you may get a spell, it will not tell you ALL the places, and often the place it mentions is not your best option for learning that spell. Note that many spells have more than one possible option for learning, and my favorite method might not be yours!

Introduction

In my experience, your best option is to power level your Blue Mage to 60, then set about gathering your spells, so this guide is oriented toward that approach. If you prefer the slow-and-steady style of leveling you will need to adjust some of these recommendations. For example, running synced dungeons to learn spells is much easier if you have learned the Aetherial Mimicry spell, but you have to be level 60 to learn that, which means you will have to learn it fairly late in your Blue Journey and may want to hold off on synced dungeons until that point.

First, some important general notes about Blue Mage spell learning!

  1.  In order to learn a spell from a mob, you must have aggro on that mob — either by yourself, or by being partied with someone who does — and you must SEE the spell being cast to completion.  Not all spells you can learn have cast bars, unfortunately, but for the ones that do make sure the spell is completed before you kill the mob or you won’t learn the spell. For spells without cast bars, try to keep an eye on your floating text or combat log to make sure the spell you are after has actually been used before you kill the mob.
  2. You cannot learn a spell if you are dead when the mob that cast it dies!  This is something that comes up frequently while trying to learn spells in instanced content. Do not end the fight dead!  If you are instancing with other Blue Mages for spell learning, don’t finish the fight until all Blues have been raised, if at all possible.
  3. If you are in the open world and the mob has been tagged by someone who isn’t in your party, you won’t be able to learn any spells from it.
  4. You do NOT have to get hit by the ability to learn the spell! You just have to see it cast.
  5. If you are partied with other Blues trying to learn spells, either all Blues get it or none do.  There will never be a case where you learn the spell and your buddy Blue does not, as long as the two of you are partied.
  6. Some instanced fights have more than one spell you can learn. It IS possible to learn more than one spell during a single fight! (If you do a synced run of Dragon’s Neck, it’s possible to learn three spells at once:  Aqua Breath, 4-Tonze Weight, and Snort!)
  7. In order to learn all 80 spells available at level 60 BLU, you will need to have completed the main story of Heavensward, opened up all three tiers of the Alexander raid, and finished the Hildebrand side story line through up to the Battle in the Big Keep. (NOT just Battle on the Big Bridge — keep going!)
  8. There is a rumor out there that the spells you need to learn for the Blue Mage class quests are guaranteed learns on the first try, no matter what.  While this seems to be true for spells in instanced content (so feel free to unsync those!)  I can confirm that it is NOT true for spells learned in the open world; I needed four kills to learn Faze and two to learn 1000 Needles on my test Blue.
  9. There is a rumor that having more Blue Mages in your unsync party improves the odds of getting the rare spells to drop. I haven’t found this to be true but it’s extremely difficult to gather evidence for this theory one way or the other.
  10. There is another rumor that if you do an unsynced Primal trial at a higher difficulty level than is required, you have an increased drop rate of the Primal spells. This is hard to prove but my anecdotal evidence says that this IS most likely true. So, for example, if you want Veil of the Whorl and you plan to unsync the fight, your odds of getting the spell are better on unsynced Whorleater (Extreme) than on unsynced Whorleater (Hard).

Ways to Learn Blue Mage Spells

Here’s a quick overview of the places and ways you can acquire Blue Mage spells (after Water Cannon, which you get automatically when you open the class):

  1. You can learn some spells from open world mobs. This is often the easiest way since you can do it solo without needing a partner or a group. Some spells can be learned solo by taking specific battle leves that spawn mobs who have the spell.
  2. You can learn many spells from instanced content while level synced. For a good chunk of the spells in your book this is the best way since if you are level synced in instance content and the spell you want is cast, you have a 100% guaranteed learn rate. Also, if you pick up a few key spells first, dungeon running on Blue Mage can be very fast and satisfying. Spells such as Aetherial Mimicry, Ram’s Voice, Missile, and Level 5 Death can allow a team of Blue Mages to faceroll many dungeons.  IMPORTANT NOTE: You do NOT need all Blue Mages in a synced group to learn spells!  For the spells learned in Trials in particular, it’s often easier to get the spells if you take in a friend on a real healer class to be able to have infinite raises, and/or on a real tank class to keep the boss under control.  The only time you are required to have a full party of synced Blue Mages is if you want credit in your Blue Log (Martyn will give you this after you complete the first half of your level 60 Blue Mage class quest) or if you want an achievement such as those needed to earn the Morbol Mount.
  3. You can learn spells while doing instanced content unsynced (using the “Undersized Party” option in the Duty Finder.) You do not have a 100% learn rate if you do this, but sometimes there are advantages to this method that outweigh the fact that you might need multiple tries to get a certain spell to drop. The level 50 content can be (mostly) soloed on a level 60 Blue once you have some decent spells, but for the level 60 content you will most likely need a level 80 partner to help you out.
  4. You can learn spells during fights in the Masked Carnivale. I don’t personally like this method since you must do the fights solo and the drop is not guaranteed (which I think is a design mistake) but there are some spells that can be gotten this way if you really want.
  5. Some spells can only be learned via Totems, which you have to earn by hitting certain spell milestones.  There are eight of these spells currently: White Wind, Off-guard, Transfusion, Mighty Guard, Moon Flute, Doom, Revenge Blast, and Angel Whisper. To learn them, once you’ve fulfilled the requirements, speak to Wayward Gaheel Ja in Ul’dah at (12.5, 13.0) (the Milvaneth Sacrarium) and he will give you totems. Click on the totems in your inventory and you will learn the spells.

Shared Spell Cooldowns

Your Blue spellbook mentions that some spells share cooldowns with other spells, but doesn’t say which. Here’s the list:

  • Feather Rain shares with Eruption
  • Mountain Buster shares with Shock Strike
  • Glass dance shares with Veil of the Whorl
  • Jkick shares with Quasar

Blue Spells 1-80 and How to Acquire Them

For each spell I’ve listed my suggested best way to get them as well as some alternate ways. If you know of other places to get these spells that I’ve missed, please let me know!

  1. Water Cannon (1): You get this spell when you open the Blue Mage job.
  2. Flamethrower (2): Synced run to the first boss of Keeper of the Lake.
    • You could also unsync this dungeon because if you don’t get it from the first boss, you have another chance at the second boss who also uses it. It is possible, but slow, to unsync it solo with a level 60 Blue Mage.
    • You can also get it from the last boss in Brayflox’s Longstop (Hard).
  3. Aqua Breath (3): Synced run of Whorleater (Hard).
    • You can also get it from a synced run of Dragon’s Neck.
    • Unsynced runs of Whorleater (Hard) should also get you this spell fairly fast. The drop rate seems to be increased if you do unsynced runs of the Extreme version of this fight.
  4. Flying Frenzy (4): Synced run of Pharos Sirius (normal). Second boss has it. You must cause him to go berserk by killing eggs for him to use this ability. Be careful as he can easily kill you with it. Get this at the same time you get Song of Torment (9).
    • You can also run this solo unsync on a level 60 Blue without much of a problem but you only have one chance each at the two spells here so synced is a better idea unless you just can’t get a group.
  5. Drill Cannons (5): Open world. Magitek Vanguard H-2 – Level 50 Northern Thanalan (16,15).
    • Also available from Reverse Engineering FATE in North Thanalan
    • Also available from Magitek Vanguard and Magitek Vanguard H-1 in Castrum Meridianum.
  6. High Voltage (6): Unsynced run of Turn 1 of Coil with a level 80 friend. The very first mob has it. It’s very fast to spam this until you get the spell but you could also do it synced for one-and-done. It’s possible to solo it on a level 60 Blue Mage but it takes a while due to the constant paralysis you have to deal with and the adds that heal the target mob
    • You can also get it from the Bestial Node from Stage 15 Masked Carnivale – The Me Nobody Nodes
  7. Loom (7): You can get this spell in the open world from the B rank hunt mark “Flame Sergeant Dalvag”, but there’s only one of him and he respawns in a different spot in the zone each time he’s killed. Chasing him around can be aggravating. I recommend an unsynced run to just past the first boss of Tam Tara Hard instead. The mobs that spawn from the cursed caskets — Dantalion and Phantom Knight — all can use this ability and you can run them around in circles in the first boss room until they use it, then kill them. This can be done solo on a level 60 Blue Mage fairly easily, and extremely easily with a level 80 friend. This spell has no cast bar; just watch for the mob to make a short teleport, and that’s the spell.
  8. Final Sting (8): Open World. Killer Wespe – Level 13 Middle La Noscea (15,15)
    • Can also get from Killer Bee type mobs in a couple of dungeons such as Sunken Temple of Qarn (Normal) and Neverreap (Divine Vespa).
  9. Song of Torment (9): Synced run of Pharos Sirius (normal.)  The last boss has this. Get it at the same time you get Flying Frenzy (4).
    • You can also run this solo unsync on a level 60 Blue without much of a problem but you only have one chance each at the two spells here so synced is a better idea unless you just can’t get a group.
  10. Glower (10): Unsynced run of Aurum Vale to the second boss. It appears to have a 100% drop rate even unsynced, and can be easily soloed with a level 60 Blue Mage. While you’re in Aurum Vale you can also pick up Bad Breath (28) from the Goldvines and Sticky Tongue (31) from the Nether Nix if you need them.
    • You will need to learn this spell to gain access to the level 50 Class Quest “The Real Folk Blues”
  11. Plaincracker (11): Open world. Clay Golem – Level 28 North Shroud (19,29)
    • Also Sandstone Golem – Level 29 Southern Thanalan (24,13), and Basalt Golem – Level 34 Outer La Noscea (16,16)
    • Also Gogmagolem, second boss of Copperbell Mines (Hard)
    • Also Azulmagia from Stage 25 Masked Carnivale – Dirty Rotten Azulmagia (but honestly, why would you?)
  12. Bristle (12): Open World. Wild Boar – Level 20-21 East Shroud (18,24). This spell has no cast bar but the boar will become buffed with “Boost” after casting it.
  13. White Wind (13): Totem available after learning 10 Blue Mage spells.
  14. Level 5 Petrify (14): This spell is a bit tricky to pick up. The only place you can get it is in Haukke Manor (normal), and only one mob has it: the Manor Sentry that spawns in the pack of mobs that appear when Lady Amandine has been damaged enough. The Manor Sentry that you fight before the doors open will NOT use this spell, so don’t try to make him.  To get the correct Manor Sentry to use this ability, you must lower his HP to 20% or less without killing him, then wait for him to use it. It is very easy to run this dungeon on an unsynced level 60 Blue Mage in about five minutes, but you will have to use care to not immediately kill Amandine, or the Sentry when he spawns.  If you don’t want to have to worry about that, or want a guaranteed one-and-done for this spell, do this dungeon in a synced group. It will take you longer but as long as you don’t mess up and accidentally kill the Sentry before he casts, you’re guaranteed to get the spell.
  15. Sharpened Knife (15): Synced run of Wanderer’s Palace (normal). This ability comes from the last boss, and it has no cast bar.
  16. Ice Spikes (16): Open world. Trickster Imp – Level 9 Central Shroud (27,24)
    • Also available from Manor Jester in Haukke Manor (Normal)
    • Also available from Azulmagia from Stage 25 Masked Carnivale – Dirty Rotten Azulmagia. (But really, why would you?)
  17. Blood Drain (17): Open world. Nearly every bat-type mob has this spell. The ones in the Blind Iron Mines in Lower La Noscea are convenient.  Cross into the zone from Swiftperch and you’ll find a bunch of them right there.
    • Also Black Bat in Sastasha.
    • Also Sand Bat, level 38, in Cutter’s Cry.
    • You will need to learn this spell to gain access to the level 10 Class Quest “Blue Collar Work”
  18. Acorn Bomb (18): Open world. This spell comes from Treant Saplings you can find in several areas of the Shroud. The densest population appears to be found near the Honey Yard in the East Shroud. The spell has no cast bar, but you’ll know it was used when the tree puts you to sleep.
  19. Bomb Toss (19): Open world. Goblin Fisher or Gambler south of Summerford Farm in Middle La Noscean.
    • Also available from Goblin Outlaws in Central Shroud.
  20. Off-guard (20): Learn five Blue Magic spells and pick up a totem.
  21. Self-destruct (21): Open world. Glide Bomb – Level 12, in Western Thanalan (27,16), by the Copperbell Mine entrance. Many bomb-type enemies have this but this is the easiest to get
    • Blasting Cap trash mob in Copperbell Mines or Flambeau, add in first boss fight in same.
    • Shrapnel in Cutter’s Cry. Can pick up at the same time as Ram’s Voice (33), Dragon’s Voice (34) and 1000 Needles (36) if you need those.
    • Time bomb from Pharos Sirius (Hard); could get at the same time you pick up Aetherial Mimicry (77)
    • Arena Cherry Bomb from Masked Carnivale #8, “Bomb-edy of Errors.”
  22. Transfusion (22): Learn twenty Blue Magic spells and pick up a totem.
  23. Faze (23): Open world. Qiqirn Shellsweeper – Level 9 Central Thanalan (16,19) or Qiqirn Gullroaster – Level 32 Eastern La Noscea (26,32)
    • Also available from a couple of Fates with Qiqirns in them.
    • You will need to learn this spell to gain access to the level 30 Class Quest “Scream Blue Murder”
  24. Flying Sardine (24): Open world. Apkallu, Level 30, Eastern La Noscea (27,35), due south of Costa Del Sol.
  25. Snort (25): Synced run of the Dragon’s Neck. Get 4-tonze Weight (26) at the same time. You can also pick up Aqua Breath (3) if you haven’t gotten it yet from Leviathan (Hard). Note that Typhon has a lot of snort-type abilities; only the one specifically called “Snort” will work to learn this spell, not “Severe Snort” or “Snortsault” or “Fungah”. It has a cast bar, watch for it.
  26. 4-tonze Weight (26): Synced run of the Dragon’s Neck. Ultros won’t cast this spell until about two minutes into the fight. Get Snort (25) at the same time. You can also pick up Aqua Breath (3) if you haven’t gotten it yet from Leviathan (Hard).
  27. The Look (27):  Synced run of  Gubal Library (Hard); Bibliolater mob in second trash pack has it. Pick it up at the same time you get Condensed Libra (76) and Magic Hammer (60). If you’d prefer to unsync this with a level 80 friend, it’s very quick and easy to run to the Bibliolater, kill him, and then repeat if the spell doesn’t drop.
    • You can also get this from the last boss of Amdapor Keep (Normal)
    • You can also get this from a level 45 Battlecraft levequest at St. Coinach’s Find in Mor Dhona. The Denizen of the Dark mob in “Necrologos: The Liminal Ones” has it. If the leve doesn’t appear on the list at first, take another leve and finish it and this one should appear. Note that the drop isn’t guaranteed so you may need to repeat the leve multiple times.
    • You can also get this from Valefor in Labyrinth of the Ancients.
  28. Bad Breath (28): Open world. Most morbols have this. Stroper level 31 and Halistroper level 31 in Central Shroud around (13, 21), near Haukke Manor entrance.  Also Stroper level 34 in South Shroud (20,28)
    • Aurum Vale, Goldvine trash mobs. Pick up at the same time you grab Glower (10) and Sticky Tongue (31).
    • Reflective Rebekkah from Masked Carnivale #19, “On a Clear Day You Can Smell Forever.”
  29. Diamondback (29): Synced run of Stone Vigil (Hard). Second boss has it.
    • You can also get this from the Horde Armored Dragon trash mob in the Steps of Faith trial (I recommend unsyncing it). This mob spawns at about 3 min 30 seconds into the trial, and there’s only one of them. He can be slow to cast the spell, so don’t kill him too fast.
    • I was able to solo Stone Vigil (Hard) on a level 60 Blue to the second boss and pick up the spell with no problem but it was relatively slow (about 11 minutes to get to Cuca Fera and kill him).  Try this only if you can’t get a synced group.
  30. Mighty Guard (30): Learn ten blue magic spells and pick up a totem.
  31. Sticky Tongue (31): Open World. Nearly all “giant toad” type mobs use this. The easiest thing to do is to get it from the Giggling Gigantoads at the same time you get Toad Oil (32). You can also grab it from the Nix mobs in Aurum Vale while you’re on your way to getting Glower (10).
  32. Toad Oil (32): Open World. Giggling Gigantoads in the area north of the Waking Sands (15,6) It has no cast bar but you can tell the toad used it if it has an “Evasion Up” buff.
  33. Ram’s Voice (33): You have two roughly equal options here. If you have done the first few steps of “A Relic Reborn” and have a reasonable set of spells, you can solo the “A Relic Reborn: The Chimera” trial on a level 60 Blue in about 5-8 minutes per run, depending on your DPS. (Be sure to take Exuviate as he uses status effects galore.) If you don’t have that trial open or you aren’t sure of your combat abilities on Blue yet, you can do an unsynced run of Cutter’s Cry which takes about six minutes on a solo level 60 Blue and get it from the final boss there.
    • You also have the option of syncing Cutter’s Cry for one-and-done, which is reasonable if you can get a group.
    • One advantage to doing Cutter’s Cry is that several other spells are also available from trash mobs in Cutter’s Cry: Blood Drain (17) from Sand Bats, Self-Destruct (21) from Shrapnel, and 1000 Needles (37) from Sabotender Desertor. If you are missing any of these spells this is a golden opportunity to pick them up.
    • You can also get this spell from the North Thanalan FATE “Go Go Gorgimera” if you can find it up.
    • Other places you can get this spell include: Apademak from Stage 21 Masked Carnivale – Chimera on a Hot Tin Roof; Azulmagia from Stage 25 Masked Carnivale – Dirty Rotten Azulmagia; and Shadowcourt Hound from Dun Scaith.
  34. Dragon’s Voice (34): See Ram’s Voice (33).
  35. Missile (35): Synced run of Battle in the Big Keep (NOT Battle on the Big Bridge!). You can also unsync this although the chicken transform makes it somewhat annoying to do with fewer than four people, and the drop rate of the spell can be poor.
  36. 1000 Needles (36): Open world. Sabotender Bailaor, level 26, in Southern Thanalan (16,15), right outside the central exit from Little Ala Mhigo.
    • Sabotender Desertor in Cutter’s Cry. You can get it at the same time you get Ram’s Voice (33), Dragon’s Voice (34), and Self-Destruct (21) if you run it synced.
    • You will need to learn this spell to gain access to the level 40 Class Quest “Blue Gold”
  37. Inkjet (37): Synced run of Sastasha (Hard). Last boss has it.
    • I was able to solo Sastasha (Hard) unsynced on a level 60 Blue Mage for this spell without a problem.
  38. Fire Angon (38): Synced run of Wanderer’s Palace (Hard) just to first boss. Spell does not have a cast bar.
    • You could also unsync this as it’s only at the first boss so you can get several runs done quickly if necessary to get the spell to drop. It can be done solo on a level 60 Blue Mage but you should try to take along a death or flat damage spell to use on the boss as he’s vulnerable to them.ffau
  39. Moon Flute (39): Clear any 10 stages of the Masked Carnivale and pick up a totem.
  40. Tail Screw (40): Open world. Level 61 Crag Claw mobs in the river just south of Ala Ghanna (27, 7).
    • You can also get this from a synced or unsynced run of Sastasha (Hard). First boss has it.
  41. Mind Blast (41): Unsynced run with a level 80 friend to first boss of Cuff of the Son (Blaster). Drop appears to be guaranteed.
    • You can also solo unsync a run of Tam Tara (Normal) and get it from the last boss.
    • You will need to learn this spell to gain access to the level 20 Class Quest “Why They Call It The Blues”
  42. Doom (42): Clear any 20 stages of the Masked Carnivale and pick up a totem.
  43. Peculiar Light (43): Open World. Lentic Mudpuppy, level 45, Mor Dhona (13,10). It’s southwest of Revenant’s Toll, almost all the way to the Castrum.
    • Also Surf Eft in Brayflox Longstop (Normal)
  44. Feather Rain (44): Unsync runs of Howling Eye (Extreme) with a level 80 friend. The fight can be finished in less than a minute with a level 80. The drop rate isn’t great but this fight is difficult to do synced with Blue Mages so unsync is your best option. The spell only drops from the Extreme version of this fight. It has no cast bar; it is the spell that makes half a dozen small AOE marks on the ground.
  45. Eruption (45): Synced run of 4-man Bowl of Embers (story mode).
  46. Mountain Buster (46):  Synced run of The Navel (Hard.)
    • You can also do this by unsyncing The Navel (Extreme) with a level 80 buddy. The fight can be finished in under two minutes and the drop rate is pretty good. The spell has no cast bar; it is the tank buster.
    • Be sure you don’t get knocked off during the fight since you can’t be rezzed and you will not learn the spell!
  47. Shock Strike (47): Synced run of The Striking Tree (Hard).
    • You can also unsync this fight, but you may want to do the Extreme version if possible as the drop rate for the spell appears to be better on the Extreme version. The spell has no cast bar; it is the tank buster.
  48. Glass Dance (48): Unsynced runs of Akh Afah Amphiteater (Extreme). This spell can only be found in the Extreme version of this fight. The drop rate unsynced is not very good but it can be a very difficult fight to sync on Blue Mage.  This spell has no cast bar; it is the wide arc of ice arrows that Shiva uses when her Bow attack is up.
  49. Veil of the Whorl (49): Synced run of Whorleater (Hard). This spell has no cast bar; it is the buff that Levi puts up on himself to reflect damage.
    • You can also unsync this fight, but you may want to do the Extreme version if possible as the drop rate for the spell appears to be better on the Extreme version.
    • You can also pick up Aqua Breath (3) from this fight.
  50. Alpine Draft (50): Open World. Level 59 Griffins on Coldwind Island just NW of Ok’Zundu (8,8). There are other griffins in this zone you can get the spell from but they’re a lot further out of the way.
    • You can also get this spell from the last boss of Dusk Vigil if you really want to bother.
  51. Protean Wave (51): Synced Raid, Alexander: The Arm of the Father (T3).
    • You can also get it from the Shikigami of the Undertow in Act Two of “Red Fraught and Blue”, the #29 fight in the Masked Carnivale. (Actually you can also get it from his waterspout adds and you don’t even have to kill them for it. I did it this way!) I don’t generally recommend trying to learn this spell from this fight though as this is probably the hardest fight in the Carnivale currently.
  52. Northerlies (52): Open World. Lone Yeti, Level 51, Coerthan Western Highlands (20,31) or Slate Yeti, Level 56, in the same area at (17,27).
    • You will need to learn this spell to gain access to the level 53 Class Quest “Something Borrowed, Something Blue”
  53. Electrogenesis (53): Open World. Level 50 Conodonts in the Sea of Clouds. There’s a set of them at (25,33) and a set at (32,35). Don’t confuse Defibrillate (not the spell you want) with Electrogenesis.
  54. Kaltstrahl (54): Unsync run of Alexander: The Fist of the Father (A1). Like Aetherial Mimicry, this spell drops not from the boss, but from the trash mob right before the boss (Faust) and Faust’s adds as well. You can easily get this by going in with a level 80 friend and letting Faust summon adds: kill the adds until the spell drops, then kill Faust.
    • The Sturm Dolls in Alexander: Cuff of the Father (A2) also have it.
  55. Abyssal Transfixion (55): Synced or unsynced Haukke Hard. Drops from the second boss. Haukke (Hard) can be unsynced easily with a level 60 solo Blue Mage.
    • The Arch Demon final mob in the level 58 Ishgard levequest “Necrologos: His Treasure Forhelen” can drop this spell, though it’s not guaranteed and if he doesn’t drop it you’ll have to truck all the way back to Ishgard and pick up the levequest again to redo it.
    • Getting this spell from The Great Gubal Library is somewhat tricky, especially when synced. The spell does not normally appear on the last boss if you do all the mechanics properly. To see the spell, you must FAIL the three-circle mechanic so that at least one of the adds spawn. Letting both adds spawn while doing this dungeon synced is very dangerous so I recommend letting only one pop. Then you have to wait and watch for the spell to be cast before killing the add, all the while dodging the main boss’s attacks. The spell does have a cast bar but it’s quite fast and easy to miss.
  56. Chirp (56): Open world. Level 50 Paissa in Sea of Clouds around (19,35).
  57. Eerie Soundwave (57): Open world. Level 59 Empuse in Azys Lla (30, 16). This is in the upper northeast corner of the zone.
  58. Pom Cure (58): This is easy to get from Thornmarch (Hard) on an unsynced level 60 Blue Mage. Let Furryfoot Kupli Kipp cast the spell, then kill him. If the spell isn’t learned, reset the instance by letting the other moogles kill you, then try again.
  59. Gobskin (59): Unsynced or Synced run of Alexander: The Breath of the Creator (A10). The spell actually drops from two mobs in the lead-up area to the boss, the Alexander Hider and Alexander Slider, not from the boss itself. This is easy to get with an unsynced level 80 friend as you can kill the two mobs (let them cast, they can be slow) and if it doesn’t drop, immediately reset and go again. It’s also super fast to get synced if you can get eight people together.
    • You can also get this from the Rank A Elite Mark Slipkinx Steeljoints in the Dravanian Hinterlands, but he can be a pain to find and to gather enough people to kill. I don’t recommend this.
  60. Magic Hammer (60): Synced run of Great Gubal Library (Hard). The Apanda trash mob right before the final boss room has it. Be careful not to interrupt his cast of this with any freeze, paralyze, stun, or silence effects, as he can then become very stubborn and refuse to cast it again for a very long time. You may have to let him kill you and reset the fight to see the spell cast again.  This is the only chance you have to get this spell in this dungeon so I don’t recommend an unsynced run unless you’re feeling very lucky. You can also get Condensed Libra (76)  and The Look (27) in the same run.

    • You can also get this in the #24 Masked Carnivale fight “Amazing Technicolor Pit Fiends” from the Act Three boss, Epilogi. You have to get through the first two acts of the fight to even have a chance to get the drop, however, and it’s not guaranteed, so I don’t recommend it.
  61. Avail (61): Synced run of St. Mocianne’s Arboretum. Second boss has it.
  62. Frog Legs (62): Open world. Level 59 Poroggo in the Hinterlands (12,34),  near Matoya’s cave.  Stand in melee range to encourage the mobs to cast the spell you want (the circular AOE around them.) If you stay at range they’ll just keep pelting you with water.
    • You will need to learn this spell to gain access to the level 60 Class Quest “Blue Scream of Death”
  63. Sonic Boom (63): Open world. Level 59 Anzu mobs in the Sea of Clouds (21,6). The spell has no cast bar, but you can tell it has been used when it puts a Windburn DoT on you.
    • You can also pick this up from some trash mobs in Pharos Sirius (normal) if you don’t have it when you go in to get Song of Torment (9) and Flying Frenzy (4).
  64. Whistle (64): Open world. Dhalmel,  Level 56,  The Sea of Clouds (16,32). Has a cast bar and puts up a blue damage up buff on the Dhalmel.
    • You will need to learn this spell to gain access to the level 55 Class Quest “Bolt from the Blue”
  65. White Knight’s Tour (65): Synced run of the Vault. Spell drops from the White Knight trash mob. Get Black Knight’s Tour (66) at the same time, of course.
  66. Black Knight’s Tour (66): Synced run of the Vault. Spell drops from the Black Knight trash mob. Get White Knight’s Tour (66) at the same time, of course.
  67. Level 5 Death (67): Unsynced run of Gubal Library with a level 80 friend. This spell comes from the “Page 64” mobs, and there are five of them in the dungeon, so you have five chances to learn the spell during an unsynced run. Note that to encourage Page 64 to cast this spell, you want to aggro it, then back up out of range or around a corner. As long as you are within melee range he will be very slow to cast it.
    • You could also do this as a synced run to just past the first boss, where the first Page 64 mob appears.
    • You can also try to pick up Abyssal Transfixion (55) from this dungeon but it’s something of a pain to get so I don’t recommend it.
    • Note that this spell, amazing though it is, NEVER works on mechanicals (robots, mammets, and Magitek weaponry.)
  68. Launcher (68): Synced run of Baelsar’s Wall. Second boss has it.
  69. Perpetual Ray (69): Synced run of Alexander: The Burden of the Father (A4). You CANNOT learn this spell in Alexander: The Burden of the Son (A8); the Onslaughter does use it but he doesn’t “die” so there’s no opportunity to learn the spell.
  70. Cactguard (70): Synced run of Sunken Temple of Qarn (Hard). The “Guardia” add on the second boss uses it. It has no cast bar but he uses it immediately when he spawns so you can’t miss it.
  71. Revenge Blast (71): Learn 50 Blue spells and pick up a totem.
  72. Angel Whisper (72): Clear all 30 stages of the Masked Carnivale and pick up a totem.
  73. Exuviation (73): Can be learned in the open world from Abalathian Wamoura – Level 57-58, in the Sea of Clouds (10, 17) (just south of Ok’Zundu.) Exuviation is a group heal spell, so to encourage these mobs to cast it, it helps to aggro another mob in the area and damage it, then bring it into range of the Wamoura and aggro the Wamoura. There are only two mobs in the area that drop this spell but they respawn very quickly.
    • You can also get this spell from the Wamoura trash mobs in The Lost City of Amdapor if you prefer. You can get it at the same time as Devour (75), Loom (7), and Eerie Soundwave (75) in one synced run of this dungeon if you want.
    • You will need to learn this spell to gain access to the level 58 Class Quest “Blue in the Face”
  74. Reflux (74): Open world. Cloud Wyverns in the Churning Mists (24,29). Note that there are only two of these mobs in the whole zone, but fortunately they respawn nearly immediately when killed.
    • You can also get it from a synced run of the Aery. The second boss, Rangda, drops it.
  75. Devour (75): Synced run of Lost City of Amdapor. It drops off the second boss and has no cast bar, but he uses it when he swallows someone. If you do this run synced you can also pick up Loom (7), Exuviate (73), and Eerie Soundwave (57) in a single trip.
    • You can also get this from the boss of the Coil of Bahamut, Turn 1, Caduceus. It has no cast bar.
  76. Condensed Libra (76): Synced or unsynced run of Gubal Library (Hard). This spell drops off the Mechanoscribe minions in the area just before the final boss. There are five Mechanoscribes in the area so you have five chances to get the spell if you go in unsynced, which are pretty good odds — just be sure to let them finish casting as they can be slow. However, if you go in on a synced run you can also pick up Magic Hammer (60) from the Apanda in the room right next to the Mechanoscribes; you only have one chance to get it so it’s hard to get it unsynced.  Overall I recommend a synced run over an unsynced due to Magic Hammer (60). You can also easily pick up The Look (27) from the Bibliolater trash mob in the second pack of mobs at the start, and there’s only one of him so again, synced is your better bet.
    • You can also pick this up from the Mechanoscribe in Act Two of the Masked Carnivale fight #24 “Amazing Technicolor Pit Fiends”. It’s not a guaranteed drop, however.
  77. Aetherial Mimicry (77): Unsynced run to the first boss of Pharos Sirius (Hard). This spell is super easy to get with one level 80 friend. It drops off the first boss’s adds, so simply allow the adds to spawn (touch the birds or spiders to drop the tether on them) and then kill them one by one until the spell drops, then kill the boss.  It usually drops very quickly. It has no cast bar but the adds use it every time their tether transforms something so you can’t miss it.
  78. Surpanakha (78): Synced run of Thok Ast Thok (Hard). He won’t use the ability until the second half of the fight, so be sure you don’t get knocked off since you can’t be rezzed and you will not learn the spell!
  79. Quasar (79): Synced run of Containment Bay P1T6 (Sophia.)
  80. J Kick (80): Synced run of Alexander: The Burden of the Son (A8). J Kick has no cast bar; it’s the attack he uses when he jumps in from nowhere and damages the entire party, not the smaller jump he uses in combat. Note that you CANNOT get Perpetual Ray (69) from Onslaughter in this fight because he does not actually “die” during the fight, so there is no opportunity to learn it even though he does have the ability.
